On a Thursday evening in December, eight days before Christmas, leave Chiaia behind and climb up to Vomero on the Funicolare Centrale funicular railway. At the Acacia, a flugelhorn, a bandoneon and a cello set White Christmas, I'll Be Home For Christmas and The Christmas Song alongside pieces from the European religious tradition and from Sardinia, Paolo Fresu's homeland.
Christmas Songs is on Thursday 17 December 2026 at 20:30 at the Teatro Acacia in Naples, with Paolo Fresu on flugelhorn, Daniele Di Bonaventura on bandoneon and Leila Shirvani on cello. It's the only date in the city, and it's part of the Associazione Alessandro Scarlatti's 2026/2027 Concert Season, 22 concerts in all. The Teatro Acacia and tickets
The Acacia is in Via Raffaele Tarantino 10, in Vomero, just behind Piazza Medaglie d'Oro. Built as a cinema in the 1950s to a design by the Neapolitan engineer Fernandez, it became a theatre for good in November 2005. It holds about 900 people, with 676 seats in the stalls and 225 in the gallery, and has a bar open before the show.
One detail before you head out: under the address, the concert listing shows Piazza dei Martiri 58. That's the address of the Associazione Scarlatti, not of the theatre; the concert itself is held in Vomero.
Tickets are bought through the “TICKET & INFO” button on the official listing, which leads to Azzurro Service: seats are numbered, and online purchase goes through Vivaticket. Follaky doesn't sell tickets: the concert and your stay are booked separately.
The running time of the concert isn't given by the official sources. Bear that in mind when deciding whether to have dinner before or after; a few addresses are in our selection of restaurants.
How do you get to the Acacia from Chiaia?
From Follaky, the route that avoids the climb goes via the Funicolare Centrale: about 8 minutes on foot to Augusteo station, the ride up to Piazza Fuga, then about 12 minutes on foot along Via Cimarosa, Via Bernini and Via Mario Fiore. That's about 35 minutes in all. Entirely on foot it takes about 37 minutes, uphill.
The theatre also gives directions via Metro Line 1: from Vanvitelli, continue along Via Bernini and Via Mario Fiore; from Medaglie d'Oro, along Via Tino di Camaino, the first turning on the left. From Follaky, the Toledo station on Line 1 is about 13 minutes on foot; every route is set out in the Acacia's official directions.
For the way back, the theatre calls a taxi at the end of the show for anyone who asks. Give Vico Monteroduni 16, Follaky's vehicle entrance, 62 metres from the pedestrian entrance at Via Chiaia 149F; our guide on how to reach us explains both entrances. How many nights around 17 December?
Arriving on Wednesday 16 December, the Thursday stays free until the evening of the concert. Check-in is done in person with Monica or Fabio, between 15:00 and 20:00; check-out is by 10:00.
With three nights, from Wednesday 16 to Saturday 19, you get two full days: the day of the concert and the Friday. Four nights add one more to decide on the spot; if you leave on Sunday 20 December, remember that on Sundays check-out is done from Vico Monteroduni 16.
On the Thursday, you can stay close by: from Follaky, the Via Caracciolo seafront is about 7 minutes on foot, the Galleria Umberto I 8 minutes, Piazza del Plebiscito 9. Which suite to choose in Chiaia?
Follaky Secret Garden is a boutique B&B in the residential grounds of Palazzo Giovagnoni, in Chiaia. Each suite has its own independent, private entrance and takes two guests, with a queen-size bed; Follaky Breakfast is included, with quality products.
