One December evening you could leave Follaky already dressed for the opera and reach the Teatro di San Carlo on foot in about eight minutes.
In Naples, in December 2026, Verdi's Luisa Miller opens the Teatro di San Carlo's 2026/27 Opera Season with seven performances from 2 to 10 December; on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th the Movimentale festival closes at the Museo di Capodimonte; on Thursday 17th Paolo Fresu brings Christmas Songs to the Teatro Acacia, in the Vomero district.
Luisa Miller at the San Carlo, from 2 to 10 December
The new production of Luisa Miller, the opera Verdi wrote specifically for the San Carlo in 1849, is conducted by Daniel Oren and directed by Davide Livermore. The seven performances:
- Wednesday 2 December, at 20:00: opening night, black tie
- Thursday 3rd, Friday 4th and Saturday 5th December, at 20:00
- Sunday 6 December, at 17:00
- Wednesday 9 December, at 19:00
- Thursday 10 December, at 18:00
It is sung in Italian with surtitles in Italian and English, running for about 2 hours and 45 minutes including the interval. Tickets can be bought at the box office at Via San Carlo 98/F, open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, or through Vivaticket, as shown on the theatre's page. The Sunday 6th performance at 17:00 falls within the Immaculate Conception long weekend: 8 December, a public holiday, is a Tuesday in 2026. Arriving on Saturday 5th and leaving on Tuesday 8th gives you three nights, the opera on the Sunday and the whole of Monday for the city.
Movimentale at Capodimonte, 12 and 13 December
Movimentale, a dance and video-art festival now in its twentieth year, closes in the Salone delle Feste of the Museo di Capodimonte with HYBRIS by Antonello Tudisco / Interno 5, inspired by Filippo Tagliolini's La Caduta dei Giganti. It is performed twice a day, at 17:00 and 18:00, on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th December, as shown on the museum's page.
The museum is at Via Lucio Amelio 2 and has two entrances: Porta Piccola on Via Lucio Amelio and Porta Grande on Via Capodimonte. On foot from Follaky it would take over an hour; by taxi from Vico Monteroduni 16 it is about 20 minutes, by bus about 50.
On Sunday 13th at 19:00, at the San Carlo, Pietari Inkinen conducts Mahler's Symphony No. 2, 'Resurrection', according to the season presentation. With three nights, from Friday 11th to Monday 14th, you get HYBRIS on Saturday afternoon and Mahler on Sunday evening.
Christmas Songs at the Teatro Acacia, 17 December
On Thursday 17 December at 20:30, Paolo Fresu on flugelhorn, Leila Shirvani on cello and Daniele Di Bonaventura bring together American Christmas classics such as White Christmas and The Christmas Song with pieces from the European religious tradition. Tickets are available through Azzurro Service.
The concert is at the Teatro Acacia, in Via Raffaele Tarantino 10, in the Vomero district. Piazza dei Martiri 58, which appears on the Associazione Scarlatti's page, is the Associazione's address, not the theatre's.
From Follaky, the Funicolare Centrale is the best option, about 35 minutes in all excluding the climb: an 8-minute walk to Augusteo station, the ride up to Piazza Fuga and a further 12 minutes on foot. On the way back, check the time of the last departure.

The City of Naples names the artisans and workshops of San Gregorio Armeno as keepers of the nativity-scene tradition.
