New Year's Eve can begin with dinner booked well in advance, continue on foot towards Piazza del Plebiscito, and end with a short walk back, whenever you choose. From Follaky Secret Garden, in Chiaia, the square is about 9 minutes on foot.
For New Year 2026-2027, Naples City Council plans free events in Piazza del Plebiscito on 30 and 31 December 2026, and on the Lungomare Caracciolo seafront on 31 December and 1 January 2027. This is set out in the public notice of 30 May 2026; as of 16 September, the programme, including artists and times, has not yet been released.
New Year 2026-2027 in Naples: what the council has planned
The notice (Executive Determination No. 1143E/2026/8 of 28 May 2026) invited artistic proposals and remained open until 26 July. The full text describes the days as follows:
- Wednesday 30 December, Piazza del Plebiscito: a music contest for young talent, mainly urban and rap, with one or more 'big name' artists from the Neapolitan scene.
- Thursday 31 December, Piazza del Plebiscito: the show 'New Year in Naples 2026-2027', with comedy and music devoted to pop culture and the Neapolitan song tradition, and local, national and/or international guests.
- Thursday 31 December, Lungomare Caracciolo: a contest for young talent and a DJ set overnight.
- Friday 1 January, Lungomare Caracciolo: a DJ set in the afternoon.
It's worth waiting for the official programme before booking your dinner time. New Year's Eve dinner is not included in your stay: to choose where to eat, start with our restaurant guide and check menus, terms and opening times.
Fireworks at Castel dell'Ovo and firework bans
In the 2025-2026 edition, the official firework display was held at Castel dell'Ovo, on the night between 31 December and 1 January. For 2026-2027 this has not yet been confirmed; if the venue is the same, the castle is about 17 minutes on foot from Follaky.
At New Year, Naples can be very lively, with firecrackers and noise. For the 2025-2026 edition, the council issued Mayor's Ordinance No. 28 of 22 December 2025, which, among other things, banned bringing in and setting off fireworks and firecrackers in certain parts of the city. The measure for 2026-2027 will need checking in December. Choose these nights if the city's celebrations are part of the trip you have in mind.
Three or four nights for New Year in Naples?
Arriving on Wednesday 30 December and leaving on Saturday 2 January gives you three nights: the 30th to settle in, the 31st for the evening, and 1 January for the city. A fourth night, until Sunday 3 January 2027, leaves the Saturday free as well. For more on choosing your length of stay, see Three or Four Nights in Naples.
Check-in is from 3pm to 8pm, in person with Monica or Fabio: it's best to state your preferred time when booking. Check-out is by 10am. If you leave on Sunday 3 January, remember that on Sundays check-out is from Vico Monteroduni 16, the vehicle access point you should also give to your taxi for luggage; the reception is closed that day.
For 1 and 2 January, check opening times in advance for anywhere you want to visit: our what to see in Naples page can help you choose. If you're thinking of arriving earlier, Naples in December and Christmas in Naples for Couples cover the weeks leading up to New Year.
Where to stay for New Year in Naples: a suite in Chiaia
Follaky Secret Garden is a boutique B&B within the residential grounds of Palazzo Giovagnoni, in Chiaia. The entrance is independent and private; beyond the door is a corridor shared by the two suites. The events in the square and on the seafront are within walking distance: about 9 minutes to Piazza del Plebiscito, about 7 to the Via Caracciolo seafront.
The Suite Chiaia Deluxe Garden View is the more intimate of the two, in olive green, wood and maiolica tiles, with a picture window looking onto two neighbouring private gardens. The Suite Toledo Deluxe Private Patio is larger and brighter, in white and turquoise maiolica, with a private patio. Each sleeps two, with a queen bed and Follaky Breakfast included. If you're celebrating with another couple, Double Suites – Exclusive Use reserves both suites for you, for up to four guests.
For your arrival, our getting here guide describes the two access points: Via Chiaia 149F, on foot, with the grounds' private lift (you'll need a 20-cent coin), and Vico Monteroduni 16, for taxis and luggage.
The council's programme will shape 31 December; the nights around it, and the suite you set out from for the celebrations, are up to you. If you picture the first morning of the year in front of the window overlooking the neighbouring gardens, look at the Suite Chiaia Deluxe Garden View; if you'd prefer more space and a private patio, the Suite Toledo Deluxe Private Patio. Check your dates from 30 December and compare the suites.
