On Via Chiaia, people stop to look in shop windows, meet each other, cross the city. At number 149F, your journey continues beyond the street: a private lift takes you into the residential grounds of Palazzo Giovagnoni. Chiaia or the historic centre: which base suits a couple?
The choice depends on what you'll be doing most often. If your sightseeing is mostly around the Decumani, the Duomo and San Gregorio Armeno, staying in that area cuts down on travel. From Follaky, the Duomo is about a 37-minute walk; for Via San Gregorio Armeno, about 32 minutes along Via Toledo, the underground saves little time: taking Line 1 to Dante and walking the rest takes about 25–30 minutes.
If, on the other hand, you'd like to alternate with the seafront, about a 7-minute walk away, the Teatro di San Carlo, 8, and the streets of Chiaia, this is the more convenient base. The historic centre will be one day of your trip, perhaps the day for the workshops of San Gregorio Armeno; you'll come back to a different neighbourhood to explore.
Piazza dei Martiri, the Gallerie d'Italia and Line 6
At the centre of Piazza dei Martiri, about 3 minutes from Follaky, stands the grey granite Colonna dei Martiri (1866–1868), dedicated to the Neapolitans who died for freedom; the lions at its base recall the anti-Bourbon uprisings of 1799, 1820, 1848 and 1860. The shop windows of the square and of Via dei Mille are covered in Chiaia's shops and craftsmanship.
About a 10-minute walk away, at Via Toledo 177, the Gallerie d'Italia occupy the former headquarters of the Banco di Napoli. On the first floor hangs the Martirio di Sant'Orsola (1610), presented by the museum as Caravaggio's final masterpiece: it returned to Naples on 1 August 2025, after the "Caravaggio 2025" exhibition in Rome. The Gallerie are open Tuesday to Friday 10:00–19:00, Saturday and Sunday 10:00–20:00, with last entry an hour before closing; closed on Mondays.
From Chiaia station, about a 4-minute walk away, Line 6 runs to Piazza Municipio, where you can also pick up Line 1. From 23 March 2026, Line 6 timetables show the first train at 07:10 every day and the last at 21:10 Monday to Friday, 14:50 on Saturdays and Sundays: worth bearing in mind when planning your return. Two suites in Chiaia: which to choose?
The Suite Chiaia Deluxe Garden View is the more intimate of the two. The olive-green bed, the wood and the blue majolica floor accompany the large window onto the neighbouring gardens. It's the suite to consider if you like having greenery in view even while indoors; the outlook doesn't include access to those gardens.
The Suite Toledo Deluxe Private Patio is larger and brighter. Here, white tones and turquoise majolica continue out onto a small private patio, with a table and seating. If you'd like an outdoor space to yourselves, take a closer look at the patio photographs.
Each sleeps two, with a queen-size bed and a private bathroom; Follaky Breakfast is included, with quality products. Getting there via Via Chiaia 149F or Vico Monteroduni 16
Via Chiaia 149F is the pedestrian entrance: the private lift to the grounds takes a 20-cent coin and stops at the second courtyard; three steps with a handrail remain after that. Vico Monteroduni 16 is the vehicle entrance, the one to give taxis and to use for luggage. The two entrances are 62 metres apart and lead to the same building.
